Hip flasks can be a convenient way to carry a bit of alcohol around so it will be handy when desired. However, there are some things to take into consideration before going out and choosing from among the many cool hip flasks available.
Look for a flask that will be able to be carried discretely in a pocket, which often means one that is a bit long and slim rather than a fat and short flask. They come in a variety of different shapes and sizes, so perhaps test out the fit of the flask in the pocket of the outfit you’ll be wearing to make sure it’s suitable.
Many states have open carry laws which make it illegal to carry open alcohol containers in a public place or vehicle. Unfortunately, in these states, a hip flask is considered an open container, making them illegal to use in public in these states.
These containers are usually made out of metal, but some are made out of glass or plastic. The stainless steel ones tend to be particularly durable and popular these days, but those who want something a bit fancier can get a hip flask wrapped in leather or with a silver or gold plating.
These flasks come in multiple sizes, ranging from 2.5 to 8 ounces, and tend to be slightly curved to better fit into a pocket. The most typical size is 6 ounces. Those wanting a smaller flask may want to consider pocket flasks or top pocket flasks, which tend to come in smaller sizes.
Keep in mind that the flask will need to be cleaned, and most flasks can’t go in the dishwasher. It may be easier to get a flask with a wider opening to make it easier to clean because very small openings will make it difficult to fully clean the flask even with a bottle brush. Don’t use soap, or it can leave a residue. Instead, use hot water, vinegar, or lemon juice and make sure to rinse it well and leave it upside down to drain out all the remaining liquid after cleaning.
